Licensing FAQ
STEP 1: Who Is Paying for the License or Registration?
If your company is licensed with or registered in a state through NMLS, either of you can submit and pay for your license/registration application. Whoever submits the Individual MU4 application must pay any associated fees when it is submitted to the state agency.
If the employer is paying, consult with your employer before proceeding.
If you are paying for the license/registration request, proceed to Step 2.
Step 2: Do You Already Have an NMLS Account?
Step 3: Review Your Requirements and Fees
All license or registration requirements and fees are available using the License and Fees Requirements Excel file and associated checklists in the Checklist Compiler.
Step 4: Have You Completed the Testing Requirements?
If yes, proceed to Step 5.

Step 5: Have You Completed the Education Requirements?
If yes, proceed to Step 6.
If unsure, see the Course Completion Records Quick Guide for further assistance.

Step 6: Complete the Individual (MU4) Application in NMLS
If your company is paying, review the Attestation Quick Guide for further assistance.
